Lifeguards play an integral role in safety in the Town of Orangeville, and on July 31, the Town is pleased to celebrate our lifeguards as part of International Lifeguard Appreciation Day.
Recognized by the Ontario Lifesaving Society, this day encourages residents to celebrate and acknowledge our lifeguards and the work they do to keep our families and friends safe while furthering education related to water safety.
“Swimming instructors and lifeguards are an integral part of our recreation programming, and we are proud to have such an incredible team. They are highly trained and certified individuals that undergo extensive training prior to hiring,” said Stefanie Lauppe, Supervisor, Recreation and Aquatics. “They also go through sessional/yearly training and recertification to develop and refine their skill set.”
This year, our Orangeville Aquatics Team ran a successful Swim to Survive Program between May and June. This program helps young swimmers learn to roll into deep water, tread water for one minute, and swim 50 metres. Between 21 schools over 1,000 students in grades three and seven participated in the program.
Currently, there are 40 staff as part of Orangeville Recreation’s Aquatics Team.
Anyone interested in becoming a lifeguard or swim instructor for the fall 2023 season is invited to visit orangeville.ca or contact Stefanie Lauppe at [email protected].
