Town of Orangeville takes further steps to contain virus and protect public

To minimize the risk to residents and staff and to help prevent the potential spread of the COVID-19 virus, the Town of Orangeville will close the remaining offices and buildings to the public tomorrow at 12 p.m.

The Orangeville Fire Hall and fire prevention offices will close to the public, effective March 18. The Town Hall, where hours were reduced to weekday mornings this week, will close to the public, effective March 18 at 12 p.m.

Most services will continue to be offered to the public -- by phone, by email, virtual and personal appointments, and online services.  For inquiries or more information please contact Customer Service at 519-941-0440 Ext. 0 or [email protected].

Residents requiring specific services or special documents, such as permits, should inquire about appointments by contacting customer service at the above number. Staff also will be available in the building to accept deliveries.

“With the March 17 declaration of a state of emergency for Ontario, it’s clear that the time has come to hunker down to contain the pandemic and do what we can not to overburden our health care system,” said Orangeville Mayor Sandy Brown. “We are looking at every avenue to provide assistance at the municipal level and to co-operate with our federal and provincial counterparts.”

The libraries, recreation centres, senior citizens’ centre, the Public Works operations centre, Small Business Centre and the Town Hall Opera House have already been closed as part of this process. Operations for many of these facilities and services continues with staff working behind the scenes or from home.
