Town of Orangeville statement on Vicinity Corp Receivership

The Town of Orangeville is actively reviewing and assessing the implications of our third-party contractor Vicinity Motor Corp’s announced receivership. Earlier in 2024, we awarded a contract to Vicinity for the purchase of two transit buses with an anticipated spring 2025 delivery.

Recognizing early signs of uncertainty, staff proactively started exploring alternative solutions to mitigate risks. It is important to note that no monetary deposits were made to the contractor and there is no financial risk. We are well-positioned to move forward and with this development, we are taking comprehensive steps to evaluate all available options that are in the best interests of our community.

Staff will prepare an information report for council, which will provide an official update once all necessary legal requirements are fulfilled.

The Town remains committed to transparency throughout this process and we will share further updates with the community as they become available.
