The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has recognized the Town of Orangeville for its 2022 Budget, including eight distinction awards. The award recognizes significant achievements in the Town’s commitment to meet a high standard of government budgeting.
The Town is the first municipality in Canada to receive all eight distinctions at the same time.
“This award is an incredible example of the hard work of Town staff and council to create an intuitive, interactive budget that allows residents and decision-makers alike the ability to easily navigate the overwhelming amount of information a budget can include,” said Mayor Lisa Post. “We are very proud of the Town’s Finance team and what they have been able to accomplish.”
The GFOA Distinguished Budget Awards included the following eight distinctions:
- Performance Management
- Financial Policy
- Strategic Goals
- Budget Process
- Long Term Planning
- Capital Planning
- Operating Forecasts
- Debt Management
In addition to the GFOA Award, the Town also received other awards related to the 2022 Budget, which include:
- Vega Awards
- Ava Awards
- NYX Awards
- Hermes Awards
“We are really proud of the work being completed, headed up by our Treasurer to transform the way we present our budgets,” said Raymond Osmond, Chief Administration Officer, Town of Orangeville. “This historical recognition demonstrates the diligence and collaborative efforts of our Finance team in pursuing excellence for our residents.”
Each year, the Town of Orangeville, particularly the Finance Division is required to undertake a rigorous budget process which includes three steps: planning, co-ordination, and control. This ensures council priorities are aligned with operational planning and resources management.
As part of the awards process, the GFOA reviews the municipality’s budget to identify whether it succeeds in serving as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide, as well as a communications device. Over 1,700 municipalities participate in the Budget Awards Program.
