Lieutenant Governor visits Orangeville

The Hon. Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, visited Orangeville on Monday, November 11 to attend the Remembrance Day ceremony in Alexandra Park, along with hundreds of residents and students. Her Honour was escorted to the cenotaph by Mayor Sandy Brown and Legion President Barry Kimber.

During the official visit, Her Honour had a private meeting with Mayor Brown and Deputy Mayor Andy Macintosh before touring the Town Hall and Opera House, attending the Remembrance Day ceremony, and visiting at the Orangeville Legion Branch 233. She also took part in a reviewing stand at Town Hall as Legion members paraded from the site and she scheduled a brief meeting with members of the media.

The Lieutenant Governor regularly participates in Remembrance Day ceremonies outside of Toronto in order to recognize veterans from across province. In her address to the crowd, she said we must keep "building a more just society based on the sacrifices of our soldiers". Meeting with the media, she said the highlight of her career as Lieutenant Governor has been meeting people across Ontario.

“It was a great honour for Orangeville to receive the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, Elizabeth Dowdeswell, on Remembrance Day,” said Mayor Sandy Brown.  “It was a special occasion to stand with Her Honour alongside veterans, members of our Legion, other dignitaries and many citizens during our Remembrance Day Service.”
