Funds for Blues and Jazz Festival – Council agreed to provide $13,125 from the $100,000 allocated for COVID-19 funding requests to assist the Blues and Jazz Festival. Representatives of the festival had asked that Council maintain the $17,500 Community Grant Program Funding for 2020.
Alder Recreation Centre pool to be improved – Council received a report on replacement options for the pool liner at the Alder Recreation Centre and voted to approve $3 million for the replacement and expansion of the six-lane 25-metre lap pool to eight-lanes and the replacement of the leisure pool liner to a polished stainless steel system. Council also voted to replace the waterslide with a water play feature. Council directed staff to include an option to install a 200 square foot therapy pool within the existing deck floor space at Alder, if the cost is within the $3 million allocation.
Property Tax Adjustments -- Council authorized a reduction in property tax totalling $64,840, as a result of an assessment review.
Electronic Participation and Proxy Voting – Council passed a By-law to provide for electronic participation in Council and Committee meetings. Council decided not to include the option to permit proxy voting.
Santa Claus parade – The Kin Club has withdrawn from organizing the 2020 Santa Claus parade due to COVID-19 and the inability to obtain insurance for hosting a parade. Council members would like to investigate the options and costs associated with organizing a drive-by Santa Claus event. Council has directed staff to report on the options of organizing a drive-by, virtual or alternate form for a Santa Claus event in November 2020, in accordance with Public Health guidelines and requirements.
