Official Plan Review Steering Committee – Council received a report about the Official Plan Review Steering Committee and approved the Terms of Reference. Councillor Grant Peters and Councillor Todd Taylor were appointed to the Committee as Council representatives. Council approved the addition of up to two community members with a planning background, and directed staff to proceed with the recruitment of members.
2019/20 Economic Development Report – Council received the 2019/20 Economic Development Report.
Broadway brick replacement project – Council directed staff to proceed with the construction project in the fall of 2022, based on the following recommendations:
- construction of a 2.2-metre-wide concrete sidewalk adjacent to the buildings
- concrete extended to the curbs at the intersection bulbs including installation of tactile plates for AODA compliance
- paving stone boulevards housing streetlights, trees and ancillary street furniture
Council further directed staff to report back in September of 2021 relating to the cost of reinstating the tree canopy to 1991 standards, bike racks, waste receptacles, electrical outlets, public seating, water filling stations, the Community Improvement Plan and items included in the Public Information Centre.
Notice of Motion at meeting – Council waived notice to allow for the introduction and consideration of a motion regarding a crosswalk to commemorate Indigenous children. Council resolved to install an orange crosswalk at Broadway and First Street to commemorate all of the Indigenous children who were taken from their families and forced to attend residential schools, and that this crosswalk will serve as an important step towards reconciliation in our community. Council further resolved that up to $10,000.00 be allocated from the 2020 general surplus to cover the costs of the crosswalk, and that the crosswalk be installed by September 30, 2021, the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Notice of Motion at meeting – Council waived notice to allow for the introduction and consideration of a motion regarding lighting of Town facilities as a tribute to lives lost in residential schools as the matter is time sensitive. Council directed that the Alder Recreation Centre and Town Hall be washed in orange light from June 30 to July 2, 2021, and that Eagleheart Singers perform at dusk at 9:30 p.m. on June 30, 2021. The recording of the video will be uploaded to the Town's Facebook Page and YouTube channel and funded up to $6,000 from the Community Grant Program.
Flags at half-mast – Council voted to continue flying the flags at half-mast until dusk on July 2, 2021.
