Orangeville Kin Club road toll – Council passed a by-law authorizing the Kin Club of Orangeville to hold a road toll event at Fourth Avenue and Third Street from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on September 18, 2021.
60-62 Broadway, OPZ-2019-06, INS-2021-047 – These two parcels are located on the southeast corner of Broadway and Wellington Street. On August 29, 2019, applications were submitted to amend the Town’s Official Plan and Zoning Bylaw to facilitate the development of a five-storey mixed-use building. The applications were deemed incomplete by Planning staff on September 11, 2019, and subsequently deemed complete on December 13, 2019. A public meeting was held on March 9, 2020 to present the proposed development to Council and members of the public. Several questions and concerns were expressed with respect to the proposed development and its potential impacts to traffic and natural features, as well as its compatibility with the surrounding area. The applicant revised the concept plan. Changes made include the reduction of two residential units, from 60 to 58 units, and a reduction of retail space from 800 sq. m. to 587 sq. m. The height of the building has been reduced from 21 metres (5 storeys) to 16 metres (four storeys) for the portion of the building that is within 21 metres of the easterly side lot line, and 20 metres (five storeys) for the remainder of the building. Council approved the Official Plan Amendment and Zoning By-law Amendment Applications (OPZ-2019-06).
2020 surplus allocation – For the 2020 fiscal year the Town of Orangeville’s net cash surplus position is $1,911,535. Motion 2021-257 from the June 28, 2021 Council meeting directed staff to allocate $10,000 of the 2020 surplus for an orange crosswalk to be installed at Broadway and First Street to commemorate Indigenous children. Council approved the allocation of $10,000 of the 2020 surplus for an orange crosswalk to be installed, the allocation of $50,000 of the 2020 surplus for the tree canopy initiative and the transfer of $1,851,535 to General Capital Reserves.
2021 community grants update – An application from the Kin Club of Orangeville was received on July 8, 2021. This is the second application received from the Kin Club of Orangeville this year. The first application was approved for funding of $6,000 in April. This funding was requested for the operational costs associated with the annual Orangeville Santa Claus Parade. The second application is to request funding of $2,500 which will be used to provide reduced entrance fees for the 2021 Santa Claus Parade. The Kin Club of Orangeville would like to help the community participate by reducing the financial barriers which were felt by many during the COVID-19 pandemic. Council approved the request.
Restaurant licence extension – At its January 11, 2021 meeting, Council received report CPS-2021-005, Restaurant and Pet Shop Licences Extension and approved the extension of expiry dates for restaurant licences to be extended to April 30 going forward. In an effort to provide relief to local restaurants recovering from financial challenges and to allow for reasonable time to renew their licences, following the continued lifting of public health restrictions, the Clerk’s division recommends that the expiry of Restaurant Licences due to expire on April 30 of 2021 be extended to September 30, 2021 and that Section 5.1 of By-law 2004-117 be amended to change the expiry date of restaurant licences from April 30 to September 30 going forward. Council voted to approve the recommendations.
Sale of rail spur land adjacent to 120 C Line – Aligroup Properties Inc. submitted an Agreement of Purchase and Sale to the Town for the acquisition of the closed rail spur lands in the amount of $400,000. Council passed a by-law declaring the closed rail spur lands legally described as Parts 3 and 4, Reference Plan 7R-2408 as surplus to the needs of the Town; and authorized the sale of the closed rail spur lands to Aligroup Properties Inc. in accordance with the terms and conditions contained in the Agreement of Purchase and Sale dated July 9, 2021.
