Mayor Brown’s Statement on Orangeville Council’s OPP decision

Mayor Brown issued the following statement on last night’s decision to transition to Ontario Provincial Police:

 



“Council’s decision last night was decisive - based on facts as presented over many months. Town Council thanks the Orangeville Police Service for their excellent service to the community.



During this process we have determined that the OPP will also deliver an excellent level of service and allow the Town to develop long term fiscal sustainability.

2020 draft budget received by Orangeville Council

The Town of Orangeville’s 2020 draft budget was tabled at the November 11 meeting of Orangeville Council.



The draft consolidated budget of approximately 60 million requires $36.6 million in net levy before assessment growth. This represents a $1.01 million (2.85%) increase from the 2019 levy requirement. Factoring in real assessment growth from 2019 of 1.35 percent, the net levy increase for the 2020 consolidated budget is 1.5 percent or $534,669.

Recreation and Parks Master Plan survey underway

The community survey for the Recreation and Parks Master Plan is now underway. Oraclepoll Research Inc. is conducting the survey on behalf of the Town. As part of a random sampling of households, residents may receive a telephone call from Oraclepoll.

Lieutenant Governor visits Orangeville

The Hon. Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, visited Orangeville on Monday, November 11 to attend the Remembrance Day ceremony in Alexandra Park, along with hundreds of residents and students. Her Honour was escorted to the cenotaph by Mayor Sandy Brown and Legion President Barry Kimber.

Orangeville Public Library has been shortlisted by the Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries for this year’s Ontario Public Library Service Awards. These awards celebrate the innovation and excellence of public libraries in communities throughout Ontario.

New tree sculptures unveiled as part of public art program

The most recent tree sculpture on a residential boulevard involves some neighbourly fun. On Zina Street, where the Staley family had previously sponsored a sculpture with two dogs, the neighbours got into the spirit with the latest project – a sculpture with three cats.

Consultant's report on policing rescheduled to November 4

Pomax Consulting Inc. will present a report on the provision of policing services to Orangeville Council on November 4 in Town Hall at 87 Broadway at 7 p.m.



Currently scheduled for October 28, the consultant’s report on the OPP costing review has been moved to November 4 to provide more time for the consultant to finalize the report. October 28 remains as a scheduled Council meeting.

The Hon. Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, will make an official visit to Orangeville, to attend the Remembrance Day ceremonies in Alexandra Park (north of Town Hall).
