With the new school year starting, let’s prioritize safety.

Here are a few quick tips:

Walking in school zones: Stay alert and follow the crossing guard's direction. Always use available sidewalks - never walk on the road - and cross at intersections or crosswalks.

Driving in school zones: Reduce your speed, be prepared to stop at all times, and wait for children to reach the sidewalk before continuing.

School Buses: Remember to stop when the bus’s stop sign is extended and lights are flashing....

Transit Service Disruption Notice:

Due to a road closure on Fourth Street at the intersection of Second Avenue, the Orange Route will encounter a slight service disruption.

When: September 4 to 17

  • Last stop before the closure: Stop 18 - Fourth Street stop

  • Route reconnection: Third Street and Second Avenue

  • First stop following closure: Stop 20 - Third Street and Orangemill Court

Stop 19 will not be serviced during the closure.

Broadway lane closure alert: Starting September 9

Lane Closure Alert

The Avalon’s private sector contractor will implement two lane closures on Broadway starting September 9. The closure is expected to last approximately four weeks, weather permitting.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Eastbound and westbound traffic will each have one lane.
  • Lane closures start just west of Tim Horton's.
  • Westbound traffic will be rerouted around vehicles turning left into Tim Horton's.
  • Left turns from westbound Broadway onto Diane Drive will be restricted.

Attention Orange Route riders

Due to overnight road resurfacing on C-Line, the Orange Route will detour from Broadway onto Diane Dr., then across Brenda Blvd. starting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4.

Quick facts:
  • Last stop before detour: Stop #2 (Avalon Centre)

  • First stop following detour: Stop #5 (Alder St. and C-Line)

Regular routing will resume Thursday, September 5.

Orange route returns to regular routing at Alder St. and C-Line

Good news, orange route riders! Starting this afternoon (August 30) at 3 p.m., the orange route will resume regular routing at Alder St. and C-Line.

  • Stop #5 (Alder St. and C-Line) will be back in service
  • The temporary stop at Thompson Rd. and Balsam St. will be removed

For commercial, industrial, and multi-residential properties, the first installment of the 2024 final tax bill is due on Wednesday, September 4, 2024.

Note, not receiving your tax bill doesn’t exempt you from paying or late penalties.

Overnight Lane Closure Alert

The temporary lane closure for paving work on C-Line, between Brenda Boulevard and Broadway, has been rescheduled to Wednesday, September 4, starting at 7 p.m.

Labour Day is coming up soon! We’ll be observing modified hours for the long weekend.

All Town offices, including Town Hall, will be closed on Mon., Sept. 2.

Both Mill Street and Alder Street Library branches will be closed on Sun., Sept. 1 and Mon., Sept. 2.

Mill Street branch will be open Sat., Aug. 31 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Alder Street branch will be open Sat., Aug. 31 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
