Default speed limit in Orangeville changes to 40 kph

Orangeville motorists are being asked to slow down. The speed limit on most municipal streets will be 40 kilometres per hour, effective March 1, 2021.

Orangeville Council voted on January 25, 2021 to amend the Traffic By-law, revising all 50 kph roadways to 40 kph. Excluded streets will include major town roads: Hansen Boulevard, First Street, Town Line, C Line, Riddell Road, Centennial Road and Broadway.

Town approves budget with less than one percent net levy increase

The Town of Orangeville’s 2021 budget was approved at the February 2nd meeting of Orangeville Council, with a 0.97 percent (or $356,417) increase to the net tax levy of $36.9 million.

Each year, Council and municipal staff work to balance the cost of providing Town services with existing resources. The consolidated budget of approximately $70 million requires $37.4 million in net tax levy before assessment growth. This represents a $839,775 (2.29 percent) increase from the 2020 levy requirement....

The Town continues to maintain and construct several outdoor ice rinks. Daily updates are provided on the Town’s website informing the public of which outdoor ice rinks are open. When a rink is closed, the public is asked to stay off the ice. For those that are open, please enjoy this winter activity and be sure to follow protocols. The Town is currently working to construct and/or maintain several outdoor ice rinks, thanks to Parks staff. When it comes to those that are being built, the public is asked to stay off the ice. Town of Orangeville lays off 46 staff due to provincial shut-down

As a result of the provincial shut-down which came into effect on December 26, the Town of Orangeville has laid off 46 Town employees. These staff members, previously laid off in March, had been recalled in the fall to facilitate the reopening of facilities and relaunch of a number of programs.

Orangeville to close facilities as Ontario enters shutdown

The Town of Orangeville will close those facilities that had reopened as the Province of Ontario gets set to enter shutdown, due to COVID-19, for 28 days, starting December 26.

The Orangeville Brampton Rail Access Group (OBRAG) has provided formal notice that it will terminate its agreement with the Orangeville Railway Development Corporation (ORDC) and GIO Railways Corporation Inc., effective December 31, 2021.
