May 31, 2017 - World MS Day
I, Mayor Jeremy D Williams, do hereby proclaim May 31, 2017 as “World MS Day” in the Town of Orangeville;
Whereas, multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system (brain, spinal cord) that is unpredictable and can affect vision, hearing, memory, balance and mobility; and
Whereas, 100,000 Canadians have MS, one of the highest rates in the world, and the MS Society estimates that approximately 1,000 new cases are diagnosed in Canada each year, which means three more Canadians are diagnosed with MS every day; and
Whereas, World MS Day is officially recognized on the last Wednesday of May every year to unite individuals and organizations from around the world to raise awareness and move closer to a world free of MS; and
Whereas, the theme for 2017 is “Life with MS” and people around the world are sharing their tips at #LifewithMS for World MS Day.
Now Therefore, I urge all citizens to learn more aware about multiple sclerosis and the impact it has on our community.
Jeremy D Williams, Mayor
