Every spring, the Town begins our annual spring maintenance and cleanup program. The tasks included in our program are:
- pothole filling
- street sweeping
- assessing and repairing damaged sidewalks
- seeding boulevard grass damaged by sidewalk plows
- park and trail cleanup
- grass cutting/sport field preparation
- playground inspections
When each task begins is impacted by weather and staffing. Some may take longer, while others may be completed throughout the year or have work continue into the summer and fall to maintain our infrastructure, parks and trails.
Breaking down our spring work
| Pothole filling |
|
Pothole are filled year-round when the weather cooperates but it ramps up in the spring. The weather shifting from cold to warm often creates more potholes as the ground shifts too.
Our staff use what's called a hot patcher when completing this task. The hot patcher heats up the asphalt, creating stronger adhesion with the fresh content we are adding.
Potholes continue to be monitored throughout the year.
If you see a pothole that needs to be filled, please send us a report at orangeville.ca/SeeClickFix.

| Street sweeping |
|
Street sweeping is a big part of our spring cleanup. While it helps make our roads look nice, it plays an important role by:
This work begins only when the weather is warm enough. We work to address our main roads first (like Townline and Broadway) and then move onto residential streets. Our initial sweeps are completed by a private-sector contractor, then our staff take over for ongoing cleaning and maintenance. Public safety is important when our sweepers are out and about. Here are some things to keep in mind:
You do not need to report streets that need sweeping. Public Works continues to monitor streets and addresses when needed. |
| Sidewalk repairs |
|
With the weather shifting, the ground and concrete shift with it. Just like this causes more potholes on our roads, it impacts our sidewalks too, creating cracks and offsets that make them uneven. Every spring our staff inspect all sidewalks and make repairs where needed. This work continues throughout the season and into the fall. If you notice a sidewalk that may need repairs, please let us know by visiting orangeville.ca/SeeClickFix. |
| Boulevard grass |
|
Once the snow is gone and sidewalk plows are no longer required, our staff begin work on repairing damaged boulevard grass. When temperatures shift during the winter and the ground softens, the edges of grass can sometimes be caught by our plows. Areas identified as needing repair receive fresh topsoil and grass seed. Depending on how many areas need to be addressed and if the weather cooperates, work can continue into the summer. If you see boulevard grass in need of repair, please send us a report at orangeville.ca/SeeClickFix. |
| Park and trail cleanup/repairs |
|
Parks and trails are an important part of life in Orangeville. As the weather begins to warm up, our Parks team begins work on getting our outdoor spaces ready for use. This work can include:
Much of this work continues throughout the season and into the fall. If you come across any broken playground equipment, please report it at orangeville.ca/SeeClickFix. |
| Grass cutting/sports fields |
|
Grass cutting in our parks, along town-owned property and on our sports fields is one of our Parks team's biggest seasonal tasks. We care for over 210 acres of grass and more than 97 acres of green space, with seven staff annually dedicated to the work. Each grass cutting cycle takes approximately nine days to complete. Weather may result in a cycle being delayed. Once the ground is too wet, we risk our equipment damaging the ground. This work continues until the fall. |
How our community can help
| Organize a community clean-up |
|
Did you know, if you are organizing a community clean-up event, we can help? Our Facilities and Parks team provides garbage bags, disposable non-latex gloves and information on where to take your garbage after clean-up. This is a great way to bring neighbours and friends together and help keep our spaces clean and bright. If you're interested in organizing a clean-up, please contact us at [email protected] |
| Dispose of household waste at home |
|
Garbage bins and receptacles around the community, especially in our parks and on our trails, are there to help keep our spaces clean. They are not meant for household and yard waste. Please dispose of your waste at home and use Dufferin County's yard waste program for grass clippings and more. |
| Pick up after your pets: it's the law |
|
When taking your pets out, please remember to clean up after them. If there's no public garbage receptacle nearby, take it home. Picking it up isn't just a request—it's part of our Animal Control By-law 2025-045. |
